❗️Iran FM spokesman: Ongoing message exchanges with US taking place amid deep mistrust

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Monday, 1 June, that exchanges of messages between Tehran and Washington are continuing, stressing that Iran entered the talks knowing they were taking place in an atmosphere of profound mistrust and suspicion.

He added that diplomacy is not a substitute for power and should not be mistaken for a sign of trust between negotiating parties.

Baghaei said the negotiations have been prolonged because the United States repeatedly changes its positions, introduces new or contradictory demands, and sends conflicting messages through the media.

He added that the situation is a natural consequence of negotiating under such conditions.

The spokesman also rejected treating the United States and Israel as separate actors, saying Washington is a constant participant in developments across the region.

“Whatever is happening in Lebanon, the United States is certainly a fixed party to it,” he said.
