❗️Lebanon's Aoun urges Israel ceasefire in call with Rubio

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun informed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday that achieving a ceasefire with Israel is essential. According to a statement from the presidency, Aoun stressed that a ceasefire is required as a foundation for moving forward toward “any other step.”

Rubio reaffirmed the US administration’s backing for Lebanon’s 'stability, independence, and sovereignty' over its entire territory, as well as its right to 'self-determination.'

The State Department praised Aoun’s “courage and vision” in engaging in direct negotiations with Israel, “even as Hezbollah continues its attempts to derail those talks at the expense of the Lebanese people.”

“The Secretary reaffirmed that the United States fully supports the Government of Lebanon as it works to seize a historic opportunity to deliver peace, reconstruction, and a better future for its people,” the State Department said.
