❗️Kenya defends West Asia fuel import deals amid opposition criticism
Kenya’s Energy Minister Opiyo Wandayi has defended government-to-government fuel import agreements with West Asian suppliers, rejecting opposition calls to end the deals. He said the arrangements have helped stabilize fuel supply, fixed freight and insurance costs, and provided a buffer against global price volatility linked to the US-Israeli war on Iran.
The minister added that the framework has diversified Kenya’s sourcing options, allowing imports from regions including Europe, the US Gulf Coast, India, and the Red Sea. Officials also pushed back on claims that the deals lack transparency or fail to deliver competitive pricing.
