🇮🇱🇱🇧🇺🇸⚡️ — Diplomatic sources revealed that Israel and the U.S. are working to recruit "vetted" Lebanese individuals to serve as security contractors in southern Lebanon, bypassing the official Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), as part of an effort to suppress Hezbollah's influence in the region, according to a Jerusalem Post report citing sources familiar with the emerging plan.

The initiative aims to fill the security vacuum left by the ongoing conflict and the limited capacity of the LAF. Under the proposed model, local contractors would handle checkpoint security, patrols, and coordination with UNIFIL forces, theoretically creating a buffer that pushes Hezbollah north of the Litani River.

However, the plan has sparked fierce internal opposition in Lebanon, with critics warning it will sow "dangerous seeds of division" and effectively create a "mini South Lebanon Army" that undermines state sovereignty. Recruiting from the local population is seen as a direct challenge to the state's monopoly on force.

Arab diplomatic sources warned that the plan is "100% likely" to lead to violent clashes between local recruits and Hezbollah, a concern amplified by the recent U.S. Treasury sanctions on Lebanese officials accused of obstructing the peace process. The plan aims to establish a framework similar to the "Awakening Councils" previously used in Iraq.
