🇺🇸⚡️ — President Trump has been privately questioning whether JD Vance is capable of becoming the future leader of the Republican Party, often asking aides and allies if Vance “has what it takes” before expressing uncertainty himself, NYT reports.

Despite the doubts, Trump still closely involves Vance in major decisions, gives him high-profile political opportunities, and relies on him to aggressively defend the administration. During a recent cabinet meeting, Trump even compared Vance to famed federal agent Eliot Ness.

Trump has teased Vance over both policy and personal matters, including Vance’s initial opposition to military action against Iran before later publicly backing the administration’s decision.

Trump has also mocked Vance’s diplomatic trip to Pakistan, his vacations, his tendency to interrupt conversations, and a viral moment where he fumbled Ohio State Buckeyes football’s championship trophy at the White House.

Vance is also regularly scrolling through his phone during meetings and engages directly with critics on social media, which has prompted White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles to encourage him to scale back online feuds, arguing such behavior is beneath the office of the vice president.
