A café owner in northern England has said British police offered him financial incentives and promised to overlook some low-level offences if he agreed to provide information on the proscribed group Palestine Action.

The Guardian reported that Shams Sadiq, who runs two cafés in Manchester, said he was approached by officers when collecting devices seized during his arrest last year over links to the group.

Sadiq said that on 15 May, two officers at Ashton-under-Lyne Police Station asked to speak with him “man to man” and told him he would not be charged over the previous arrest.
