Israel has launched a new electronic system to register Palestinian land in areas of the occupied West Bank, in a move aimed at reorganizing and updating property ownership records under direct Israeli supervision.

The system primarily covers large parts of Area C, which is under Israeli control according to the Oslo Accords. Observers say this system could accelerate the process of informal annexation of the West Bank by reclassifying unregistered land and converting some of it into “state land”, which may weaken Palestinians’ ability to prove traditional ownership, especially in rural areas.

In contrast, human rights and international organizations have warned that this step forms part of a policy of gradual annexation and a broader effort to change the legal reality on the ground.
