🇪🇪In Estonia, it is believed that the mandatory conscription of women for military service may become inevitable over time due to demographic problems.

The head of the Estonian Defense Resources Department, Anu Rannaveksi, stated that the country will face a shortage of men for military recruitment in the future. According to her, if in the past up to 15,000 boys were born annually, now there are only 4-5 thousand.

"By 2040, the problem will become very noticeable - we will not be able to recruit 4,100 people, as envisaged by defense plans," said Rannaveksi.

Currently, mandatory conscription mainly applies to men. However, Estonia is already discussing the possibility of extending it to women. Supporters of this idea note that many tasks in the field of defense do not require high physical fitness, and women could serve in logistics, medicine, and other areas.

At the same time, the parliament believes that in the coming years, the country will be able to do without the mandatory conscription of women, but does not rule out such a step in the long term if the demographic situation does not improve.
