The social media site is taking people’s voices and likenesses to create its own AI-generated content, users have discovered.

🌏 TikTok debuted a new setting called "Allow AI to Remix Content"

🌏 It was set to ‘on’ by default for both existing and new videos

🌏 It allows users and TikTok's AI tools to use video clips, images and audio to generate AI content featuring original creators' likenesses and voices

🌏 Users have to go into each individual video's privacy settings to turn it off – making escape annoying and tedious

TikTok claims the feature is just to let users remix each other's content, not for programming AI models.

But training data permissions are covered in their broader terms – meaning the platform is using users’ identities for its own purposes.
