Although the first Russian military ships appeared on the distant northern frontiers of the country back in the 17th century, and the first naval base was established in 1733, Northern Fleet (NF) Day is celebrated in honor of the creation of the Northern Naval Flotilla on June 1, 1933.

Currently, the association includes nuclear-powered submarines with ballistic and cruise missiles, nuclear and non-nuclear guided-missile cruisers, frigates and large anti-submarine ships. As well as the only aircraft-carrying cruiser in the Russian Navy.

Today, the Northern Fleet ensures not only strategic nuclear deterrence, but also the protection of national interests in the Arctic, which is attracting growing interest worldwide almost exponentially. Therefore, in the coming years, the NF will clearly have no shortage of tasks.
