As efforts to reach a framework agreement between the US and Iran continue, The New York Times, citing three officials familiar with the matter, reported that US President Donald Trump has sent Iran a revised proposal containing tougher terms. The proposals have been hammered out with the involvement of intermediaries, including from Pakistan.
According to the outlet, Trump's latest moves came in an attempt to accelerate the negotiations and pressure Tehran into accepting the current framework.
NYT reported that Trump remains concerned about provisions related to unfreezing Iranian assets, two officials said, and has also grown frustrated by delays in Iran’s response through mediators, one official added.
While the proposed framework is intended to end the US-Israeli war on Iran in exchange for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, major disputes, including the future of Iran’s nuclear program, remain unresolved and have been pushed to later rounds of talks.
