In a statement on X, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, a member of Iran's Expediency Discernment Council, stated, "As expected, the US president is betraying diplomacy for the third time."

Rezaei argued that "by continuing the naval blockade and making excessive demands in the negotiations, he has proven more than ever that he is not a negotiator and is pursuing other objectives."

In a recent interview with China's CGTN, Rezaei said the political doctrine underpinning US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's approach is rooted fundamentally in a drive to bring down the Islamic Republic and impose a new regional order.

He linked efforts to dominate the region's oil and gas resources to a broader strategy of manipulating the global economy and exerting pressure on China and Russia, a tactic Trump had previously tested in Venezuela.
