Six of the nine acts originally announced to perform at the Freedom 250-organised "Great American State Fair" on the National Mall have pulled out after learning the event was linked to the Trump administration.
Bret Michaels of Poison, Morris Day and the Time, rapper Young MC, country singer Martina McBride, The Commodores, and Jodie Rocco of Milli Vanilli have all announced their withdrawal, leaving only Vanilla Ice, Flo Rida, and C+C Music Factory still scheduled to perform.
Most artists cited the same core complaint, that they had been recruited under the impression the event was a nonpartisan celebration of the country's 250th anniversary, only to discover the reality after the lineup was publicly announced on 27 May.
The Great American State Fair is only one component of an expansive programme of 250th anniversary events Trump has assembled, several of which have drawn criticism.
